Mother's Keeper

Abby Kesington 1979 (Lagos)

I am my mother's Keeper
At her heart, I stand a gatekeeper
To waive off the grim reaper
intent to make her an untimely weeper

I am my mother's daughter
Courageous and a fighter
One of the arrows in her quiver
Quick and sharp her enemies shiver

Ever ready for the slaughter
Not afraid to trudge mucky water
Just to silence her mockers
and clear her path from blockers

I am my mother's laughter
Bringing good tidings to her matter
Like olives round her platter
Her mind at rest that I got her.

I did too. My mom and I are very close... I cherish every moment the universe has given to us. She lives far away, but I try to keep in touch and have her words envelope me like a shawl.
