I'll Think of You

They say that life’s a circle,
But truly it’s a line.
One we can’t see looking forward, we can only see behind.
And behind stand many memories, where you are still alive,
And in each of them we can still see the sparkle in your eyes.
I’ll think of you every time I see an old man fishing on the shore,
I’ll think of you when I struggle picking bait and wish you had time to teach me more.
For you were taken suddenly, shocked is the only word that we can see.
In a flash, a moment, life became memories, and you are now where we can’t be.
But in our hearts you’ll always be.

I’ll think of you when I build things and touch-up our future home,
I’ll think of self-sufficiency you taught me and  to be strong.
I’ll think of you when I cut wood and create something beautiful from scratch,
For you taught me to create and I’ll be forever grateful for that.
I’ll think of you when I garden, think of you when I plant.
And once I finally conquer zucchini I’ll wish I could call and tell you that.
And fathers for their daughters hold a special place in their hearts,
Through the ups and downs, whether close or far, they’re always needed,
Approval desired. Girls love their daddy’s from the start.

I’ll think of you when the Olympics are on and I watch the swimmers flying by,
I’ll think of you when I see Harrison Ford or hear Indy’s theme music drifting through the sky,
I’ll think you every time my daughters try out a new class,
I’ll want to call and tell you “she’s trying swim team and she’s so fast.”
I’ll open the phone to send photos and realize there’s one less photo to send,
For I can’t send them to heaven,
your time on earth has come to end.

I’ll think of you if I see fish and chips or even a pirate bar,
I’ll think of you when I ride a bike, whether it’s near or far.
I’ll think of you when I look at the stars for you are up there somewhere,
I’ll talk to you like you are listening because who knows
Exactly how it goes, maybe you can hear me, maybe you’re somewhat near me,
Maybe you are smiling on us all.

So many times I’ll think of you and one day it won’t feel so sad,
But I’ll never stop thinking of you,
For I love you, you’re my dad.
