That's how it goes

That's how it goes,

I ran like hell to get away from that man.
who worked at the store where my stealing begin.
cigarettes in hand my friends  all with smiles.
that's how it goes ,when I was 10 years old.

I was looking at time  , not a slap on the wrist.                           while doing that time, I learned to use my fist.
chain gang bound , killers all around.
that's how it goes , when I was 20 years old..

now I'm back in court, for some old child support .
my children looking at me, saying mama who is this man.
if they only knew, all the hell that I've been through.
but that's how it goes, when I was 30 years old.

I had a grandbaby born just the other day.
there was cold in her heart .when she told me to stay away.
I'm the outside looking in, and I'm nowhere to be found .        but that's how it goes ,when I was 40 years old.

now I'm on my death bed, with no love ones around.
you can hear a pin drop . and even silence makes a sound.
but there is one there. it's karma holding my hand.
and that's how it goes
when the only life I  seen, was my own.
