Poetry's Presence

Kacey Roman 1974 (United States)

Poetry is the window to my soul
Even more so than my eyes.
The words betray the depths of my feelings
That my expressions could hide otherwise.

A word can have a hundred meanings,
And a sentence, a thousand more.
A poetry verse has countless possibilities,
And a thoughtful mind can open any door.

When my heart is filled with laughter and joy
The words flow easily, carefree and light.
But when the joy is tempered by darkness and sorrow
The words weigh as heavily as the blanket of night.

So read my poems with an open heart,
As they pass through the years of my youth,
And remember the love with which they were written,
And the innocence which stems from the truth.
