L'Encelade

Les hauts buis d’alentour bordent un rond-point d’eau.
Aux angles du bassin, devant leurs ombres graves,
La Déesse aux yeux durs et le Dieu aux yeux caves
Tiennent l’un le trident et l’autre le marteau.
Au centre, enseveli dans un vivant tombeau,
Un Encelade tord, sous l’amas noir des laves,
Son gigantesque corps qui, nu dans ses entraves,
Sent peser la vengeance et le roc pour fardeau.
Sa gorge horrible, tout le jour, a fait jaillir
L’écume qui retombe autour de lui, soupir
Monstrueux et grondant de sa rage enchaînée.
Mais, avec le soir sombre et l’heure qui s’avance,
A mesure, l’on voit, de sa bouche acharnée,
Le jet d’eau qui décroît accroître le silence.
