Provincetown Images '66 (For Allen, wherever you are)

I have my bike so then it’s
downtown Provincetown
 and Christ tears by
 in a cream Corvair
 with a blond bohemian virgin
 wearing gypsy jewels

It’s buy pecan made-on-the-premises fudge
then go down Grecian Arena steps
 if you must
 under a “Pre-Fire-Sale” sign
 and buy genuine
 direct-from-the-cape made-in-japan
 junk

And then it’s sometime later
 and I’m turned on
 reading woolly Ginsberg
 “Reality Sandwiches”
 on the bottle beach
speckled pattern of bottles, crushed Shaeffer cans
 and tourists
 while Commercial Street combo
 blows happenings
 from an empty cafe-
my new buddy Steve’s beneath the pier
and tourists splash and wait for night.

And there’s
 boys boys boys
 with beach bleached hair
 and light brown hair
 and dark brown hair
and they’re comin’ down the street in masses
and they’re hangin’ from the rented rooms
 thousands!
and there’s an infinity of
 naked arched feet
and bell-bottoms are in and on
and yellow light and salt air
 and snaking oboe moods
weave a strange opiate

it’s a crazy tightrope night
 and some bearded pussycat
 with a shiny black hat
bumps by and gives me the eye
 but don’t save me baby,
 I know what I’m doin’

heaven happens
