Pain’s Slave

Little sis curled up in my lap, asking if we'll be okay

All I can tell her is to pray

Listen to Momma singing sweet songs in her grave

I'm so sick of being pain's slave

Waiting for the eye of the hurricane

But all we hear is the rain beating against the window pane

Just a little sunshine, it's all I'm asking

Just to a little break from always running from something

Something to keep us fighting

Especially on these cold, hard nights

We hear daddy's door slam shut

To shut out our cries, no doubt, but

There's no flinch from us

We're so used to hearing him cuss

Having him shut his door, it's a good thing

Cause now we can go, but we won't stop running

All because our daddy's so cunning
