Freefall

Alice peered down the rabbit hole her eyes hungrily following the bounce of the white cotten tail of the rabbit which had jumped
down in haste. She couldn't help but wonder what it was all about and yet she was overcome by a strange pull of compulsion to follow
him. As she contemplated this, unknowing to her, her white knuckled fingers had been gripping the rabbit hole's edge so tightly that it
made the sides of the earth gradually crumble beneath her fingertips, and before she knew it, the ground as she knew it began to give
way, and the last thing she remembered as her helpless body started falling, was the sound of her own scream, which was left behind
at the top of the hole, and was slowly catching up with her.

Intriguing. Engaging. Especially liked the line: “the sound of her own scream, which was left behind
at the top of the hole, and was slowly catching up with her.” Powerful.
