I Wake up in the Dark

I wake up in the dark,

Every morning,

Every day.

I scramble for my phone blindly

Swatting at the ground until I can finally grasp it.

As I turn it on

I blind myself with the light of the screen,

It reads:

6:30 A.M.

I roll out of bed slowly like molasses

My vision gets blurry so I reach for my glasses.

My head seems to hurt, a shower should do the trick.

I slowly turn the shower handle as it whizzes to life.

Nothing is better than hot steamy water hitting your skin.

Standing there in the shower,

A million things run through my mind,

But monotony of the water hitting my back calms my thoughts.

As I turn off the shower hear a sound.

Drip Drip Drip.

My head seems clear and ready for the day.

After getting dressed I walk to the front door,

I take a deep breath,

Stepping outside ready to face the day.

In what seems like a second, a chaotic blur,

I wake up in the dark once again.
