Prayer of a Tortured Angel

As a child I’d see dark things
Some would sing and some would scream
They followed me wherever I walked
But sometimes it was as if I was stalked
Soon I realized through all of my teachings
They’d stay by me constantly reaching

To be yourself you will yearn
Thanks to them this I’ve learned
You will never tame your demons
But you must keep them leashed

As a teen I’d see fiends and little dreams
All they showed was there darkness
But they certainly were not heartless
With my eyes I saw their light
But they certainly had their spite

To be yourself you will yearn
Thanks to them this I’ve learned
You will never be an angel
So please do not try to be

Now as a man
I know Satan
And I am no genius
But I know dear Jesus
Good and evil
Allow me to beat them
And dark and light
Be down for the night

To be yourself you will yearn
Thanks to them this I’ve learned
You will never tame your demons
But you must keep them leashed
You will never be an angel
So please do not try to be
