Necessity (I need you, you don’t need me)

She said she really likes me,

But she wasn't looking for a relationship,

And she isn't looking for one now.

I know not when my love will be put to sleep;

but now I'm staring,

Daring not to count the sheep.

As the fan blades spin endlessly,

I wonder:

Does my lover lay awake,

In her bed like me?

Alone and cold but waiting breathlessly,

All the while the question swimming endlessly;

"Does my lover ever wonder about me?"

She says she writes out of necessity,

But I write for a different need.

I need the attention need the applause need validation but most of all,

I need you….

To need me.
