From the Caverns They Watch

Tears roll down crystalline cheeks,

eyes squint to hold them back,

behind bars as gentle as glass,

before they shatter at the slightest impact.

for what they have witnessed,

did they send their message,

yet not one of them saw it coming,

the end of all they hold dear.

Fallen are the memories of their past,

mixed with rubble and dust,

did the hordes come flowing through,

the veins of their very existence,

an illness weeding out the weak.

they grabbed them by their arms,

which remained outstretched towards the light,

ripped their roots from the soil,

leaving them covered in what remained,

of what they once called home.

Did they cheer upon their deed,

having been finally accomplished,

all that they had come to see,

was now desolate and barren,

a desert in its infancy,

a naked earth,

searching for intimacy.

And so the tears burst forth,

slipping through the cracks in her heart,

as they littered the ground with their suicidal drop,

did they give the earth what they ought,

what it deserved from its inception,

to wash away the past,

erase the memories,

and in high water drown their emissaries.

Such was the end of all that mattered,

buried between soot, sand and water,

before the mother of all things took back,

what she gave so heartlessly,

and so they emerged from their cliff side caverns,

and gazed upon all that they had forsaken…

in from their eyes flowed regret,

for they had forsaken not only the labor of hands,

which was not their own,

but of the past,

for which they bled,

and yet now,

they remained alone,

a fragile shell ready to drop,

down to what they left behind,

a testament of hatred,

to shatter her crystalline cheeks,

to finish the job,

with brutish methods,

without admitting what they,

the fiends bring…
