I saw the light.

You rejected my love, my good intentions,
used and abused unconditional affection
twisted the truth to suit your imperfection
until I begin to despise
lost all hope, the will to survive.

Airs and graces, the perfect gent,
wallowing in self defence
lashing out against your demons
too afraid to face your torments
as pain and anguish simmered and boiled
and fury erupted in devil's guise.

Thunder echoed through the skies
lightening striked, not once but twice,
a path of destruction, no end in sight,
no hope, no salvation, there was no light,
and even as the storm subsided, you was trapped in shadows, scared and frightened.

How I longed to break free
from the confines of reality,
how I longed to soar but my wings were clipped, couldn't fly any more,
tired and bruised, weak and shattered,
trying to survive, nothing else mattered.

I lived, I breathed to get through the day,
scared to dream, I lost my way,
trapped in a nightmare, devoid of hope,
so confused, I couldn't cope,
and freedom seemed so far away

I prayed to God to hear my prayers
I drowned in my tears, deep in despair,
and then I heard the ocean's roar
the moon and the stars gave me strength to explore
the sun dispelled the darkness, this was a brand new day,
I saw the light, I escaped my plight.

Thank you Lord for your guiding light.

Good rhyme scheme as always.  Wonderful rich imagery.  Well written.
