The Mermaid

With baby blue eyes - she blushed,
as a gentle breeze kisses her neck.
The moon waned - its magic receding,
her fragile shape so bewitching.

Another whisper cast to the shore,
while waves splash against jagged rocks,
making a songbird sings some more,
as she waits for the enchantment to begin.

Her golden hair draped across her breasts,
her trembling lips as cold as ice,
standing there with her nakedness,
as her true form is about to be revealed.

She closed her eyes,
diving into the quiescent waters
 as the light appears,
transforming her into a mermaid.

Hearing a familiar voice calling her name,
with bewildered eyes he looked the same,
reaching a hand to touch hers,
love true flame shining in his eyes.

One night of passion spent with him,
a hefty price she had to pay,
for now the spell is broken
and she has to return to the sea,
leaving him with only a memory
of what could never be.
