the memory remains

i am lost in the midst
of my memories trail
where the ghosts have broken
free from their chains
i thought they were gone
all but forgotten
but the memory remains

where have you gone
my lost only brother
i used to see you
behind the flames
those dreams of mine
you would often visit
still the memory remains

where have they taken
the one whom i looked too
every breeze kindly whispers
as my soul cries in vain
the dark of the night
cannot hide you forever
now the memory remains

Beautifully crafted. The poem opens up the reader to empathize with the pain of the poet. Nicely done.

Love how the repetition of "the memory remains" itself reflects on how memories echo continuously.

A sibling lost is unbearable and no words of compassion can bring solace to the person in grief. I am truly sorry, my friend, Clifton. I have nothing but admiration for your natural skills, Clifton. Kindly continue to share with us.

There's something haunting about this poem that makes it so understandable and amazing. I think it mainly stems from the way that you wrote this and how its reflected in your word choice. I really, really liked the first stanza. I can't put my finger on it, but there was something there that was unique. Not as though the rest wasn't! The other two were great as well...First just caught my eye with the ghosts and chains. Hmm...Nonetheless, good work! You just keep getting better and better!
