The Second Sandy

one mum
one gun
one son

poor poor sandy so tattered
more than any ocean storm could batter

one mum with a gun
taught her only son to murder

"now kill'em all.  let's have some fun"
said one mum with a gun

one mum
one gun
one son

For some reason, I hear "Army Dreamers" by Kate Bush in my head when I read this poem. I suppose it's the brutal truth in it. "our little army boy is coming home from BFPO - I've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mammy's hero - morning in the aerodrome, the weather warmer, he is colder" and "now he's sitting in his hole, he might as well have buttons and bows." War kills, murder kills. I guess that's the connection in my head.
