Home Again

Long walks on the beach,
feeling the sand between our toes.
Now you seem so far out of reach, where you are, only God knows.
As I look at the sky, questions swarm in my head,
I keep asking why? Then I remember what you said:
Darling I'll be home soon!
Thinking about your smile will get me through the day.
Baby, I know that we're gunna be so far away.
Just remember, I'll be home soon.
Then one day I saw your picture on the news.
They said you had been injured, or possibly worse.
I refused to believe what they had to say.
And wished somehow, that time I could reverse.
Then late one summer night,
came a knock on my door.
I started to cry when I turned on the light,
Cause there you were standing on my porch like six months before,
you had gone overseas for our country to fight.
And you said, darling we will no longer be apart.
For you I brought a purple heart.
Wanna tell you bout the things I've seen, places I've been.
But words can never describe how good it feels, to be home again.
