Casualties of War

Oh, what murder and mayhem have I wrought,
yellow headed bodies scattered all around,
their innocent lives so abruptly ended?
Casualties of war;
all for the sake of pleasing the neighbors.

I mowed my lawn today.

Sometimes we have to do the wrong things for the right reasons. I've always loved dandelions and I always feel so guilty when it comes to mowing them down. The society we live in really doesn't allow us to live in harmony with nature as we should.

Thanks for the comment, dux. Glad you enjoyed my poem. Dandelions are one of my favorite varieties of wild flowers and I am often sad when I have to mow them down for the sake of appearances. Gardeners are always at a constant battle with the weeds that encroach on their gardens of carefully selected "desired" plants. After all what is a weed but an undesired plant? Hence the allusion to a battle ground of mayhem and destruction for in the eyes of the dandelion is that not what it is?
