I was raised in Cedar Rapids,Iowa, when war came along, I was there for my country spending four years fighting all over the Pacific. I received two commendations and a purple heart. Going back to school was not my kind of thing although I tried. About that time I was invited to a church beach party. Wondered if that was for me until I saw the cutest little gal you ever saw. My buddy that invited me wouldn't introduce me. Went to his home, and saw a phone number written on his wall. He and she were both Sunday school teachers. Well I called her. "Do you remember me at the beach party? Would you consider having dinner with me?" I later found she had asked him why he hadn't introduced me to her, he was so handsome. His answer "Oh he's too fast for you." We were married 59 years and she certainly changed me. We were deeply in love. We didn't have any children, but with her help we went into business that was very profitable. As a hobby I wrote poetry which she loved, and she encouraged me to write a children's book. That started it. She became my critic, my editor, and advisor for three more kids' books. She bravely fought cancer but it got the best of her. That was the most tragic loss of my life. All I could do was keep writing to occupy my mind away from my loss. There are now 14 books in print. I love giving readings to kids at the Children's Museum where there are about 36 kids, the local Y.M.C.A where there are about 84 kids, and at Starbucks Children's Hour where there are about 8 kids. Starbucks gives me a free cup of coffee. I also read my books at the Salvation Army Christmas Party where there are about 123 kids. I've donated books to each of the kids as Christmas presents after reading to them. I also gave books away at several retirement homes. In all, loads of donated books were to good causes. My books are on Kindle, in Barnes and Noble, the old Borders and Amazon; also on the shelves of three libraries. Many bookstores also have my books. There are five children's books, and nine others. A dog book, two nature books, a fun book,a senior's book, a religious book, a Western book, a bunch of poems, and last but not least a storybook about a Mexican girl with English and Spanish on opposite pages. I'm an old past president of International Rotary Club. Nice bunch of fellows. Time is catching up so there won't be any more books, however individual poems will always come forth.
