This is a classical 'Persona poem' written from the point of view of a fictional married woman which the poet created, who is the speaker of the poem.

The poet some worth omniscient to tap into the secret passion and emotion of a married woman who accused him of always stealing adulterous glance at her, but was indeed crushing on him too. A feeling both of them couldn't consummate.
