I am 61 years old. Retired. So I have a little more time to spend on my drawings and writing. I never thought about entering a poetry competition before but I’m curious to see if my writings are any good. My wife thinks so plus a few friends but I’m sure they would say that anyway. I would love to get something published. So we’ll see how things go.

he sits by the banks of the river
calmed by the sound of the estuaries aquatic residents

he lifts a handful of small white pebbles from the embankment
they are smooth and gentle in his grasp

Last orders at the bar

Last orders at the bar

Look at me
I'm like
A ship wreck
Lying on the sea bed
Decaying
Covered in coral and rust
Too tired
Too weary
To
navigate my way back
to
the surface
Tired

the turbulent...

Black Corvette

I drove all the way down
to Miami Dade County
In my banged up old car
that rattles and hums
Tossing empty beer bottles
onto the freeway
while singing we’re The boys
from the county hell

I wear dirty shoes
And a broken hat
I can fit all...

Two red cars

I get into my car
and
I put it in gear
But
the clutch won’t Work
and
the wheel won’t steer
I
try to run
but
I don’t get far
Now
I’m stuck In the middle
between
two red cars
Sometimes you just run
out
of gasoline
just

The enthusiastic oenophilist

She's the eternal optimist
An enthusiastic oenophilist
She's a town hall planner
And a life enhancer
She has zeal
She has zest
She wears a Che beret
And a moral vest
She reads Marx
& Engels
She prefers crisps
to Pringles
She's...

I’m new to all this too. Feel like I’m winging it. But I’m enjoying it. Glad it stirred a response from you. It’s about being human. You give all of yourself to help.

Hey I really dig this poem. I’m an atheist but I still love spiritual poems. Gospel music too. I have actually wrote a Jesus poem. I’ll post just to let you see it. You are clearly very talented so keep on keeping on
