I am 50 years old and proud of it. I've been married to the same man for 23 thereof with three kids on top of that, a daughter 23 and two sons 20 and 14 years old. I'm fairly new to writing poetry, only started a little less than two years ago after my mom died as some coping mechanism. Once I got a taste, I couldn't stop. So, here we are... I started writing when I was about eleven years old, having to keep two younger siblings occupied while my dad was at work and my mom constantly in and out of hospital with our youngest sister who was born sickly. At first I tried reading to them and we only had a children's bible that was so hard to read, much less to understand. It was written in our mother tongue - Afrikaans, but such difficult words were used for what was supposedly a kiddies bible in those days. Then I started to tell those stories in my own words, using the amazing pictures as a show and tell. The illustrations was the only thing going for that bible back then. Later on it was just fun to make up stories off the top of my head and they ate it all up. Then all that creative energy went and gather dust on the shelf and time just flew by. It immerged again some ten years ago and I wrote short stories in my home language and then I got busy again. Until now

If you are sometimes lonely
Peculiarly distant, scared
Feel disconnected, misunderstood
Miserable, worried,...

Night terror

Robust, roaring, darkening skies
Furious clouds, threatening light
Carefully curious, watchful eyes
Anticipating a stormy night

Violently smashing, growling wind
Shivering, shaking, rattling trees
Monstrous goosebumps, clammy skin

Who I want to be

That woman who on bended knee
Would pray for friends and family
Each morning as the clock strikes three
Includes even her enemy
She's who I want to strive to be

This lady with the pleasant smile
Her tattered clothes and well-worn shoes
She...

Who the hell are you?
Yes you
The thing that dare glare back at me
If you are someone I should recognize
I certainly can't see
Yet you oddly seem familiar
Though there are no guarantees
That somehow, somewhere
We have met before
Was it...

Who was she?

A woman of great extremes she was
Her eyes would twinkle like the nightly stars
When she laughed out loud
She could rattle a crowd
It's musical notes would echo a mile
From the sternest face could it hack a smile

Her eyes could drown in a...
