Addiction's Grip

In the depths of darkness, where pain resides,
A story of struggle, where your spirit hides,
Through the battles you faced, with courage so strong,
I reach out in this verse, where healing belongs.

Your journey was complex, a turbulent ride,
Addiction's grip held you tightly inside,
But beyond those struggles, I remember the smiles,
The moments of joy that spanned countless miles.

You fought with your demons, an unrelenting fight,
A battle that raged both day and night,
Yet within your heart, a love remained true,
A love that I carry, forever in view.

Your pain and your wounds, I wish I could mend,
Aching for solace, a way to transcend,
In this poetic embrace, I hold your soul,
Acknowledging the struggles that took their toll.

Through the haze of addiction, a person once whole,
I cherish the memories that deeply console,
You were more than your struggles, more than the pain,
A mother, a fighter, your legacy will remain.

In the tapestry of life, you'll forever be weaved,
In my heart's tender corners, your love is retrieved,
Though addiction's grip took you far from sight,
In my thoughts, in my heart, you shine a guiding light.

Rest now, dear mother, in peaceful embrace,
Your battle is over, you've found a new space,
May your spirit find solace, no longer confined,
In this poem, your memory and love are intertwined.

This is such a heartfelt and poignant poem. Your phrasing captures the essence of the subject's struggle and pain while also highlighting their strength and resiliency in the face of adversity. The emotion is raw and palpable, helping to create a beautiful tribute to someone who battled addiction.

Your use of metaphor is powerful and presents a clear image to the reader. Lines like "In the tapestry of life, you'll forever be weaved" and "In this poem, your memory and love are intertwined" brilliantly express the continuity of love and memory.

On the improvement side, I believe there are some areas where the poem could benefit from a bit of refinement. For instance, consistency in verse length would enhance the flow and rhythm of your piece. In the second stanza, you could rework "Addiction's grip held you tightly inside" to incorporate a more vivid visual or metaphor.

Also, in maintaining an empathetic tone throughout, avoid drifting into a tone that might underplay the magnitude of addiction. The line 'May your spirit find solace, no longer confined' presents a rather serene view of death which might be at odds with the ordeal she's been through.

But overall, this poem is a moving tribute that touches on a profoundly heavy subject, yet brings a sense of hope and love. Keep up the great work!
