Ontological Masque of Scales - Nature's Thespian Ruse
Oviparous victuals, the serpent's cibarious quest,
An edacious charade where fangs bear no heft,
Venom cedes to guile's stratagem deft.
Colubridal contortions, a choreographed ruse,
Hissing scales enact a terpsichorean muse.
Feigning ire, it strikes a farcical pose,
This saxicolous sport, where truth' visor's rose-
Hued tint conceals life's obstinate preys,
From opsonic glares, a thespian's disobeys.
Dasypeltis, the eggish beguiler's name,
Nomenclature belying its stratagem's aim.
Evoking Lethean streams, soporific guise,
Elicits in ursine watchers mere aguise.
Somnolent mien masking peckish zeal,
Semblance wreathed in verisimilitude's teal.
Each gulp razed of testudinous cates,
Rites Hellenic augurs with Sybilline pates.
Involuting viscera reshape, hypertense,
Quashed nidamental shells in gists guttitense.
Scales' stridulous threnody, hiss-woven lay,
Bared iambs of persuasion mime feral brae.
Dissembling's thespian guise, fanfares of fear,
Mask truth's naked cast, curtained from viewing ere.
This protean masque rendering seeming discord,
Cacophonous cadence in nature's fair hoard.
Dire menace's mime devolves into jest,
As jaws unhinged envelop fragile nest.
Apotheosis'd hunger in cloaks fey and sage,
Rapacious, yet rendered by sophists' lyric'd rage.
Unmawed by calumnious praise or satire's jape,
This reptile's theatrics transcend their trope's scope.
Defying visceral trolls with drollish riposte,
Its stratagem unwinds in Time's endless horologe.
Gnomic jests weaving life's comedic tarock,
Anarthrous gambits snaring fancy's derrick.
Spectacles profane yet sacred to lore's grail,
Each tilt enacts nature's own Passion's veil.
Panpsychist pageants, ontological ruse,
Rehearsed in amphitheaters, lush verdant stews.
With antic fer'or the trickster's script unreels,
Its aposiopesis frayed guise repeels,
Rendering mockery of Truth in this stage:
A quip at mortality's world-garden'd cage.
Hermetic motleys this feigned war essays,
Viewing aught but escape as phantasm's malaise.
Pelting falsehoods to shroud reality's blow,
Its charade affords perspective's status quo.
Yet its ruses eluct nature's remorseless rhyme,
Reflecting conscious life's phantasmic paradigm.

About this poem
An elaborate poetic exploration of the egg-eating snake's deceptive hunting strategy, likening it to a theatrical masquerade or charade. The poem paints the snake's movements and ingestion of eggs as an intricate choreography of illusion and guile to trick prey and onlookers alike. With vivid metaphors, it depicts the serpent donning metaphysical "cloaks" and "motleys" to veil its true rapacious nature beneath layers of feigned somnolence and harmless pretense. The snake's ruse becomes an ontological spectacle mirroring the fundamental illusions underpinning reality and conscious existence itself. Its theatrical feints unmask deeper truths about the roles deception and perception play in the paradoxical drama of life. more »
