Les Asperges



Soigné par un malin, le vieux ayant pour tic
De balayer son nez du revers de sa manche
Bâfrait, buvait, montrant par plus d’un pronostic,
Qu’il achèverait saoul le saint jour du dimanche.

Il avait nettoyé tous les plats ric à ric.
Le pain sec y passait, les os après les tranches.
Ah ! voilà la salade enfin, dit le loustic :
« Comment l’aimez-vous mieux père Jean ? verte ou blanche ?

— C'est la blanche, mon fils, moi, que j’aime le mieux. »
Or, la salade étant des asperges, le vieux,
Tandis que l’autre en hâte engouffrait les bouts verts,

Grognait les chicots pris et mâchant de travers :
« C’est peut-être ben bon, mais que le diabl’ me torde !
Si ça n’me paraît pas que j’mange de la corde !
