Hanno's Poem To Emperor Geta

The gates of hell are open night and day;
Smooth the descent, and easy is the way:

In this the task and mighty labour...

The View from Halfway Down

The weak breeze whispers nothing
the water screams sublime.
His feet shift, teeter-totter
deep breaths, stand back, it’s time.

Toes untouch the overpass
soon he’s water-bound.
Eyes locked shut but peek to see
the view from halfway down.

Just to clarify, the number of views shown doesn’t fully reflect how many voters have seen your poem. We only count views from voters who open the poem for a full read.

That said, most voters check out a good portion of the poem through the preview box before voting, and those interactions don’t count toward the view total. It’s designed this way to help voters go through entries more efficiently while still giving everyone’s work a fair shot.

That was indeed a glitch resulting from us manually tweaking the ranks due to the recent events — this is fixed now, and On Hope and Liberation moved up to 3rd place. Thanks you for being on top of things, Jon!

In grammatical terms, "There's two of them" is incorrect because the verb "is" (from "there is") is singular, while "two of them" is plural. The correct form is "There are two of them," as the plural subject requires the plural verb "are."

As a follow-up to the fair review we promised a few days ago, we wanted to update you on the situation regarding the November and December poetry contest winners. After thoroughly examining the entries and using AI detection tools, we concluded that the 1st place winning entries were generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI).

We understand that this has been a frustrating situation, and we truly appreciate your patience. At Poetry.com, we are committed to ensuring fairness and authenticity in our contests, and we’ve taken this matter seriously. We've updated our terms and conditions to clearly state that submissions must be original and created by humans. Additionally, we’ve added a checkbox to the contest submission form that must be checked by all participants certifying that their work is original and was not created using AI.

We’ve updated the winners’ list and will be distributing prizes accordingly. We hope this addresses the concerns raised, and we continue to be dedicated to fostering a community that values authentic, human-created work.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we move forward!

Just a quick update to let you know that we're actively looking into the concerns raised regarding the December contest winner and are also reviewing the first-place winner from November. We're using existing industry tools to determine whether the submissions in question were created using AI tools, and have reached out to the members involved for their responses.

Thanks for your patience while we sort this out. We hope to reach a fair decision early next week. Thank you for your trust and understanding.
