How long must I wait

Andy Lyle 1951 (Londonderry)

How long must I wait
 For my life to begin
My patience was good
But it’s now wearing thin

I’ve asked for so little
To spare me this hell
All I want is a clear head
For me to be well

I get up in the morning
To welcome the Sun
Hoping today is the day
When I’ll start to have fun

But I’ve no sooner dressed
And knotted my tie
When the panic sets in
And I think I will die

My body is shaking
I’m struggling to breathe
My heart is pounding
To the beat of my knees

I just want to sit down
And block out all the noise
Wait for shaking to stop
I have no other choice

Breathe deeply and slowly
Till the panic subsides
And wait till the next time
Mind and body collide
