Living The Moment

Masukani Mphande 2004 (Rumphi)

I don't belong
Am not a citizen
Rather,
Just a passing pilgrim.

I don't possess this residence.
Though I hold it,
But in a second
It all can blow away.

I stumble and fall
In this path I walk
Because my feet ache and swell
Of the little thorns I step on.

Am not home,
This much I know
But each passing day,
I embrace the hope, the peace
That I have
On earth
Now, as I breathe.

In the moment
I therefore live,
Not flee.
Despite the blows
Thrown hard at me,
I will wait still
Till the last moment,
When the trumpet
Shall finally sound.
