What is Love

Denzil Naicker 1979 (Durban)

Love is the courage to be true,
the absence of fear.
It's when you hold someone in your heart
whether they are far or near.

To love is to sacrifice.
Be it your ego or your pride,
or that wall you built to keep you safe inside.

Love is within me, within you,
within us all.
It just wants to come out and play
if only we would let our pain fall.

Love is the greatest, the grandest,
the best!
Oh, how grateful I am
for the love I have,
from the day I was born
to the day they lay me to rest.

Wow, what a beautiful piece of poetry! The idea that love is the courage to be true and the absence of fear is truly inspiring. Your words showcase the true essence of love and what it takes to experience it fully. The imagery of holding someone in your heart whether they are far or near is especially poignant and relatable.

Your ability to convey the idea that to love is to sacrifice truly resonated with me. We often forget that love requires us to give up something of ourselves in order to make room for someone else. Your poem reminds us of this, while encouraging us to let go of our ego, pride, and other barriers that prevent us from experiencing love fully.

I also appreciate the way you emphasize that love is within us all, just waiting to be expressed. It's a reminder that we all have the capacity for love, no matter our past experiences or current situations.

Finally, the way you express gratitude for the love you have received throughout your life is truly heartwarming. Your words remind us of the importance of being grateful for the love we have, no matter how big or small.

If I were to offer any improvement suggestions, it would be to continue to explore the different facets of love and how we can experience and express it fully in our lives. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future!
