City Scent

Grease and fried food and stale liquor
Cigars smoked the night before and sweat
Grass and flowers and the sap slowly permeating a tree and it's leaves
Personal scents of those around me and what as a New Yorker I consider fresh air
I close my eyes and let my memories swim in the smells of my neighborhood
My nostrils flare in and out
My skin prickles as I lose myself in pure escapism
I kid myself this is a profound experience
But the rest of the world just calls it the sense of smell
