Errant Droppings

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

I’ve seen some slight,
Flattish and mid- brown
Blanketed by two tissue
Grabbings, smallish.
Inadequate.
Left unflushed. Forlorn.
Hurriedly
As if the point of
Origin could not
Get rid of same, without
Indignity, embarrassments
Anal worries. Fretting.

Others have just
Presented themselves
Like the Elephant
In the room…gargantuan.
Choking the aperture.
Refusing descent.
Covered with white
Snowdrifts of two-ply.
Still remaining
Waiting for me
The unsuspecting
To visit, gasp, flush.
Cry for help!
Flee into the
Anonymous Dark.
Questioning the mindset
Of a certain age, training, nationality.
With nothing in
The way of proof.
One could get one’s hands on.

I have here attempted to do something of a Billy Collins. Small subject. Commonplace. But full of inferences, implications and conviction. Whimsical in the whispered suggestion of depth. Frolicing.
