special

I heard a story
where a guy flew over Manhattan once
just once
and drew a mile long drawing from memory
I’ve got a talent
I can look you right in the eyes when you speak to me
and not hear a damn word you said
They say I’m special
and I think that makes two of us
In other news
I’ve become a professional with the eye contact thing
I don’t think I looked another human in the eyes
Until maybe thirteen
It’s such a waste of energy
A pointless exercise
Like a bank deposit slip
Rays go in
and bounce back out again
A story as old as time
A dying man finds hope
A dog gets his bone
Two teenagers run away
abandon home and family
and find their deepest dreams on the road
We did that
I looked in your eyes
you looked in mine
and at the very same time we knew
this world did not deserve us

I hated eye contact as a youngster but I'm better at it now too. Nice connect about finding love on the road.
