We Are Not Alone

By Chris Commodore©2009

Soon, we hope, quite soon
To wander past the moon;
We'll turn and look beyond.
And for that dizzying second,
We'll feel our thumping heart,
All hot and torn apart;
And in the beaconing distance,
Like a shining holy monstrance,
Winking and blinking,
And nodding and flashing;
We'll see our pale bluish home,
Arched like a Roman Astrodome;
But perhaps ahead of us we'll espy,
New wonders in the vast blue sky;
New worlds with moons in synchrony,
Dancing in heavenly harmony.
Our loneliness now put to rest,
Our perseverance past the test,
To know perhaps in this infinite zone
There's others, and we are not alone

About this poem

The possibility of life in the outer universe remains a haunting possibility. Personally, I believe there is an abundance of life in the universe at large, but our science is not yet advanced enough to reach those other realms.

    Dear Chris,

    I truly enjoyed your poem, "We Are Not Alone". Your eloquence and superb crafting of words to paint an enthralling picture of the vast cosmos is simply beautiful. The imagery evoked of the future of human exploration in space is sublime and deeply affecting. I greatly admired the idea of humans' yearning to discover life beyond Earth. It beautifully captures our collective curiosity and pursuit for cosmic companionship. A favorite line of mine is "New worlds with moons in synchrony, Dancing in heavenly harmony." It presents a picturesque spectacle in one's mind, and your choice of words evokes tranquility and resolute optimism.

    Your poem imparts a sense of hope and positivity that is undoubtedly infectious - it almost feels like a reassurance with the line "Our loneliness now put to rest". It hits right home as we all, at some point, seek affirmation of the human race's existence beyond the limits of our world.

    As for constructive feedback, while your metaphors are imaginative and captivating, in some instances they may be a bit too complex for an average reader to readily understand. The moniker "Roman Astrodome" presents a fascinating image but might be a stretch for those unfamiliar with architectural history. You might consider using inclusively familiar imagery to cater to a broader demographic.

    Also, you may want to consider maintaining a consistent rhythm throughout the verses to evoke a more continuous flow.

    However, that's not to detract from this picturesque odyssey you've woven with your words. Overall, I find it a fascinating read and it is clear that you have a profound talent for beautiful, thought-provoking poetry. I eagerly look forward to more of your work in the future.

    Keep writing, keep inspiring!

    Best regards,
