Stranger in These Times

Edward M DelBove 1956 (New York)

Trying to rhyme 'bout something
                         Nothing comes to mind
Ideas that inspire can be
                                         difficult to find
Unexpected sources seem to
                             be the prime location
To find inspiring ideas is
                            a full-time occupation

Sometimes just a random phrase
                  Sometimes an observation
Sometimes dream inspired things
                         are sources of creation
Never can I know for sure
what my next rhyme may be
I sit here at the keyboard
                          just awaiting patiently

Rhyming's my great passion
                     Perhaps, it seems absurd
Like disregarding flying's worth
would be for some fine bird
So many other passions are
out there from which to pick
None of them, however, are
for me what makes me tick

Others have great hobbies
                              or, sit and watch TV
I don't criticize them for
what joy to them may be
Myself....I garner happiness
                     from writing silly rhymes
Some days, I feel as if I am
                     a stranger in these times

About this poem

I wrote this, as an avid amateur rhymer, to try and describe the process involved in creating my works.
