Poets Remember

Poets write often when prompted by faded memories of the heart
We think about instances from life that in some way we played a part
The good times leave a smile while the hard ones leave regret
We wish we could change some but like concrete they are set

But what wonderful verses these lookbacks can bring
Even with a mournful vision our poems can sing
The poet equally grasps the good and the bad
Poems can be majestic even if they are sad

As pen touches paper we do not pretend all is well
Our verse must be truth or we have nothing to sell
We hope a reader is lifted for a brief moment in time
Whether we share verse of misery or a joy so fine
