Polaroid

The first time I saw you, I took a mental picture
In it, we stood together holding hands

With both of our minds and hearts connected
Aspirations for our life together danced in our eyes
Hopes and Dreams we once had for ourselves immediately changed
They twisted around each other and all became one
One wish that would grow as we grew together, grew closer

But that didn't happen, we never grew, we never twisted, we just never connected
Our relationship never blossomed because it never got started
Like a flower that never bloomed, like a door that never opened, a step never taken
You weren't the one that got away, you weren't the one that I let go
I never took that mental picture to the photo lab
So you are the one that should have been
My undeveloped roll of film
