Analysis of G. M.* Hopkins

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

Wore a backwards collar.
Steeped in Greek
Some Hebrew.
Posited big questions.
The Fall in Garden he knew.
The squeeze of Olive Garden.
Sweet Olivet’s repose.
And then arrested
Was Jesus bested?
He knew of frauds’
Sheep’s clothes.
Gerard Manley* took all
Of same and masticated
Til.
He knew the Father’s
Loving Heart.
In poems would
Show His Will.
And Jesus valiant
From a Lad.
And visions that
The Spirit had.
And unction meant to fill.

(Read First John 4: 7-14)
