Analysis of Lightning's Borrowed Light
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
Sitting on a high balcony,
My eyes gazing
Upon the might,
Of lightning
Dancing over the ocean.
Suspended moments,
Whispers in the dark,
Winds serenading
The mystic sparks.
Thunderous applause
Of nature's art,
Unfolding secrets
In electrified veins.
Underneath
The night's heavy blanket,
The waves hold their breath,
As if to honor
This celestial spectacle.
I find solace
In this transient show,
Fireworks
Of nature's unending
Grace.
My thoughts scatter
Like sand
Beneath the immense
Weight of the sky.
Chasing
Fragmented memories,
Like thunderbolts
Splitting the clouds.
As the lightning strikes
Time stands still,
And my heart echoes
A tempestuous beat.
Through each illuminating flash,
I catch glimpses
Of my own reflection.
A momentary portrait
Of vulnerability,
Etched in shadows
And borrowed light.
Questions intertwine
With the swirling storm,
And I wonder
If the lightning knows
The answers
To the unspoken prayers,
Lingering
Within the depths
Of my soul.
The ocean,
A vast canvas
Of ebb and flow,
Responds
To the symphony above.
Each crash
Against the shore
Reverberates
Through my bones.
The thunder
Whispers secrets
Only the tide knows.
Watching the lightning
Over the ocean,
I am struck
By the beauty
Of transience.
In this suspended ballet
Of energy and flux,
I find myself
A mere witness,
To the grandeur
Of this cosmic choreography.
And as the storm
Rages on,
My spirit finds
Solace in the chaos.
Sitting on a high balcony,
Embracing
The lightning's
Borrowed light,
I surrender,
Becoming a brushstroke
In the infinite painting
Of the universe.
