Analysis of Authenticity
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
I harbored no resentment
Towards society,
Given that I didn't fit
Into its confines.
I had long ago adjusted
To that fact.
The constant dance
Between belonging and exclusion,
A repeated refrain.
A nomad in the vast wilderness
Of masked conformity.
Seeking solace in the embrace
Of isolation.
Knowing all too well
The wistful yearning
For connection.
But still, I thrived
In the margins.
Unfolding narratives
Of my own creation.
Invisible, but not insignificant.
In this tapestry of existence
I found my solace.
A quiet revolution
Against the world's noise.
Where others saw discontent
I saw liberation.
In the spaces
Where society abandoned me,
I discovered my true self.
Unhindered by the chains
Of expectations and trends
My spirit soared
Away from the tangle
Of belonging,
And into the limitless expanse
Of self-awareness.
Though society may not claim me
As its own,
I find solace in knowing
That I never really belonged.
Because within that realization
I unlocked the power
Of my own authenticity.
