Annie

Douglas H. Mc Clintock 1934 (Sarnia, Ontario)

I once knew an old lady names Annie,
She was in a class by herself.
Always dressed in black, what a grannie,
Lived out in the country by herself !

Her favorite book was the black Bible
Taught me many things I never knew.
Walked straight without a wobble,
In her ninety's no cane, a proper lady of years ago.

A neat little house she lived in
No indoor plumbing or electric things,
An outhouse with newspaper to wipe within,
A potty for wintertime, made in England !

She wore black high boots to her knees
White blouse with a purple kerchief.
With oil lamps with a wick to read
She was self made, the old fashion way !

Listen my friend, this is not a made up story,
I have her ceramic potty and two oil lamps
Of an era gone by, no radio, or tv to be a bore.
It was the little things in life, like reading your Bible !

We all meet many people in life,
Some good, bad, sad, take your pick,
But knowing Granma Smith
Made me richer than you will ever be !
