2am

I’m up at 2am again.
I spent all day right in my bed
Where I slept all daylight away
And spent all night laying awake.
I don’t have dreams, only nightmares.
I guess it’s true: life’s never fair.

I’m up at 2am again
While all these thoughts race through my head.
It seems my mind is borderline
On right and wrong, I need a sign
Before my heart beat goes flatlined.
I want to see new crimson lines.

I'm up at 2am again
Simply writing with this pen
About all the things haunting me,
But "I'm just fine", can't you see?
And now I know I’m not the key.
Now I know it was never “we.”

I’m up at 2am again.
I had the will to look ahead,
But where's the light behind my eyes?
The ones that hid so many lies?
Even when you criticized,
I only ever felt butterflies.

I’m up at 2am again
Lost in the letters never sent.
You had said you would always love me.
I know I’m not what you wanted to see.
I now know we weren't meant to be.
It seems the clock has just struck 3.

About this poem

I come up with a lot of my work when I'm not in a good headspace and this just happens to be one of the products of that.
