Seashells and Stones

It was on the full moon of Juno
when you drowned yourself on wine,
proclaiming your heart still yearned
for a maiden who shattered you
into pieces of thin glass
and got myself into a pool of tears.
On that moment with Juno,
I listened as you drown in sorrows
and told me you loved me—
But my faith never sailed in your waters.

For a brief moment of cloudiness,
I foolishly believed we have started anew
for we created a homemade glass
with our bare hands, just for us two;
Until you showed me how desperate you were
to jump on that ship just for her—
Even though she's not there.

While Juno momentarily watched us
before the newly awaited moon appears,
we dived deep into our passions
as we sunk to the depths of the sea.
We've let it pass 'til another new moon came,
and our hearts began to quiver again.

Augustus came before the full moon
and the storm that hinders us
kept raining each day.
But my soul, already fragile like glass,
was slowly getting drained from my body
until I could no longer return to the shore
and collect seashells and stones—
for you have always kept them in a box,
awaiting for that mermaid's return.

About this poem

I wrote this poem about the ache of loving someone who's not completely over their past love, yet declares their love for you.
