THE RUGGED TRUTH

He spoke it as it is
He neither minced nor faltered in words                                     Such boldness as that of the Lion which can never be despised,
The truth that liberates and make you say thank God after all
He spoke it when it mattered but never to impress
He wouldn’t say a word contrary to the Father’s pleasure,
I love this man of Galilee
Who declined not the shame of the cavalry cross
For the mission before him, the cross the pathway,
Left his kingly throne to be born to a carpenter
Wisdom was with Him-understanding clothed Him
He knew it all, yet as humble as a child
At His command, situations obey yet He always prayed
And humbly surrendered to the Will of the Father
Obedience and love He manifested
Rebuked, consoled, taught with love
The rugged truth just as it is, He never minced.

About this poem

I wrote this poem during my National Youth Service Corps year in my room at Lamingo Dam Jos Plateau State Nigeria after watching the movie the passion of Christ by Mel Gibson. I was so inspired by the unequivocal character of Jesus that I started writing.
