Sunday

My heart needs to hear that the children are fed
But I’ve walked through the streets where the homeless have bled
Lying in view of the family of five
on their way to the church to pray

And my soul needs to know that my God has a plan
Where sense can be made of the doings of man
But I open the paper and read of the rape
Of a twelve year old girl gone to play

So my head must convince my heart and my soul
That evil is balanced by good on the whole
And time runs through all these things that we do
To wash all these sins away

Because church bells ring
And choirs start to sing
And I need to know why
