The Dance

Laura Clark 1986 (Attleboro)

I danced with him a couple times
and now he thinks he owns me.
He knows I am devoted
and thinks he is my only.
He is with me day and night
and still I feel so lonely.

Someone must've heard my prayers
as I laid wrapped in his arms.
Suddenly a little light
and I could see through all his charms.

As I stood unafraid prepared to take this leap.
I prayed our Father knew my soul
was only his to keep.

It was you God who rescued me
regardless of my past.
I knew then when I found you Lord,
I found true love at last.

As a recovering heroin addict and former atheist I feel as if I am just now learning the power of living purposely. That every struggle led me here. Every word I've written in my journals all these years are rooted deep from my soul. This is my journey. This is life. more…
