Pretty People

~Pretty People~
Written: 04 December 2023

There's so many flaws about myself I could point out in just a heartbeat, but what good would that do me?

So many blemishes; imperfections and things I cannot change, would and could flaws, could if I would flaws. All the want to's, wish to's, tried but never could to's.

but what good would that do me? What purpose would that serve? How would I prosper in this shallow world.

I would never be able to walk out there with my head held high. As I should.
Shoulders square and back and confident. As I should.

I'd shrink and quiet and just hope no one would notice me. Please dont notice me. If you don't notice me, you can't notice all I see wrong with me.

But no - that is not me.
I shake my head and in turn toss away these forlorn thoughts.
Instead I try to embrace.
I try to forget and pose myself with grace.

I let myself lean into me.
focus in on the smaller Things that make me more than just a face. A body.

I find the uniqueness in the crook of my smile.
The memories in my laugh lines.
The pain in my forehead wrinkle.
How I got that little scar on my chin.
How I've been midsized. Fat and thin.

I can enhance and change and hide without having to disappear. You would never think there's so much I don't like in someone I hold so dear. You'd never think I have all these insecurities. Perfectly masked with confidence and serendipity.

You'd never think of all the things I envy, of the lacking of things I wish I had and wonder why I did not get.  Because the only way to feel good about oneself in a world where it's all about superficial things is not to fret.

Dont fret the small stuff in this photoshop world. about the pretty girls and the magazines and the Hollywood stars and barbie doll scenes.

all these perfectly engineered genetics.
This and that and 10 in 1 cosmetics.
It's not a sin to to love yourself.
Treat yourself and be better.

So long as we remember
What is a body without a soul
A face without a mind
A heart without love
Or a well manicured hand that is not kind

Lets not forget it means nothing to a starving spirit.
Nothing to a wanton soul.
It does not comfort the broken hearted
Or make what's empty again whole.

What is being beautiful and flawless?
If I am rotten on the inside.
What is an embodiment if it carries no purpose?  A beautiful body with a soul you cannot find. A pretty head with empty thoughts or a heart that's easily bought.

We focus so on touching body's we've forgotten how to caress the mind.

So for all the flaws I see on me.
I'd rather work on my insides.
And let shine through me.
All the potential of what good in me resides.
