Addicted

J.L. Bramlett 1977 (Austin)

I lied
I lied about my addiction
I am most certainly addicted
Im not addicted to pills
Or shooters
Or weed
Or booze
Or cigarettes
Or food
But I am addicted
You are my addiction
Your smile
Your voice
Your walk
Your talk
Your moves
Your touch
I cant get enough
You could lock me in a dungeon and deprive me of food for month and I would still crave you
Need you
Want you
desire you
I can't quit you
No matter how much I try
No matter how often you gut me
I
Can't
Quit
You
Your claws are dug in so deep that my skin has gone numb
I have bled out
My heart has stopped pumping
I exist on you and you alone
You know this
You love this
You need this
You FEED off of my love leaving no scraps for anyone else
Not even me
You bleed me dry and I keep coming back for more
You will be the death of me
But oh, what a beautiful way to die

About this poem

This poem was written after finding out my husband of 20 years, who was a major alcoholic, was having a long term affair. I never thought I would be the girl who stayed.
