The Clown

Content in the jungle
Happily did they roam
Enjoying each tumble
Heavenly home sweet home
Everything they had
And then some more
No reason to be sad
Happiness galore
Life was so simple
Relations were so pure
First breath to last wrinkle
They were always secure

Until that day when the clown came along
Singing a catchy hypnotizing song
They laughed at him at first
They mocked the way he dressed
Big fancy words he used
They were surely amused
He showed them his exotic artifacts
He demonstrated the magical acts
They were impressed and they were enchanted
Though these things were not really wanted

They dropped down their guard
The clown then played his card
He gave a few things to some
Jealous felt those who got none
For those magical things they too began to crave
Trying to get them, readily became his slaves

Life was never the same again
Love, harmony went down the drain
On every face there was now a frown
Everyone wanted to become the clown
Life now became a constant mad race
Of contentment there wasn't a trace

The old ones still remember that day when clown came along
They still remember him singing that hypnotizing song
He taught them to love the things that they don't need
He introduced them to the concept of greed
