The Mirror
the stars, they came and tricked me again
the voices in the Mirror
they whispered “the worst is over”
still, the worst isn't over
my cold bare smoky feet on cement
outside the house i learned from
the best, i grew from the worst
with dry eyes i tried to understand
staring into the Mirror
seeing the stars as they are
where did i go, i fell far too deep
into fields of meteors
disappeared and lost for now
can my face still be found in color
under the blues or next to
the freckles in the Mirror
i can feel the clean scars on my arms
zipped closed, i am in silence
my head hangs low once again
to remember the day i dove in
i threw out my training wheels
but you weren't there to let me
know that mom and dad's are still in use
no bother, i'll hide the fear
from the dull stars o'er my head
swarming hatred came and stayed in me
changed me from the silhouette
i used to share with the night
why can i not see the thing clearly
my face, gone in the Mirror.
and why can't I stop shivering
still, I can't stop shivering
