Analysis of The banter of chums
GIDRAF MWANGI 1992 (Murang'a)
It’s spontaneous and free
Unfixed and broadly varied
Both quiet and loud voiced
And often overlapping
Women talk about others
Specializing on gross scandals
Men speak about issues
With staunch political stands
Although often harmless in intent
Sometimes personal attacks occur
Reputations can be felled easily
With a sharp-tongued deride
Seldom are common issues pursued
As everybody clamors for attention
The loudest always hold sway
And the reserved make background
The language used is eclectic
With no particular tongue preferred
Customized language inflections rule
Since they have special meanings
Broad swinging gestures flourish
Loud raucous laughter bursts
Sharp retorts shoot forth
And taunts raise ugly feelers
When chums banter
